Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to the most common questions travelers ask before visiting.

Tufa towers form from calcium carbonate deposits where freshwater springs meet alkaline lake water. You can view and photograph them, but climbing or touching is prohibited to protect these fragile geological formations.

Swimming is possible but not recommended for extended periods. The high salinity and alkalinity can irritate skin and eyes. Rinse thoroughly with fresh water afterward if you do swim.

South Tufa Area offers excellent sunrise views with tufa reflections. Navy Beach provides stunning sunset views across the lake. Both require separate entrance fees and have limited parking during peak times.
