Shouf

Our first suggestion is the Egyptian app called Shouf. One thing about Shouf is that it is created specifically to help Egyptian tourists and locals too. Yes, even we locals need help finding amazing spots in Egypt. So you are not alone when you need to use apps while being in Egypt. No one can say no to making life easier and more enjoyable!

What is Shouf, exactly? Shouf is an app that helps you with booking hidden gems in Egypt. We are not talking about familiar hidden gems, either! Shouf offers you an experience you never thought possible; it also guarantees you enjoy your time in Egypt. For example, some of the activities that Shouf recommends are bird watching, cooking lessons, and swing classes. Amazing, right?

In case you did not know, Egypt is divided differently than countries like the United States. Rather than having states, Egypt has governorates. Do not worry. You already know some of the governorates that exist in Egypt. Two of the most famous governorates are Cairo and Alexandria.

However, there is one con that Shouf has. This con is the fact that the app only supports 10 governorates. So when you register in the app and choose the governorate you want to have adventures in, you won’t see many governorates. These 10 governorates are Cairo, El Gouna, Hurghada, Fayoum, Luxor, Aswan, Marsa Alam, Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab, and the Black and White Desert. Better have something than nothing, you know?

Why exactly was the Shouf app created? Well, at Shouf, they wanted to make people avoid disappointment. Imagine visiting Egypt and enjoying it, and then when you return to your homeland, you find that you missed many great places. I know that even I would be disappointed!

So Shouf is the perfect app for you to have when visiting Egypt. No longer will you only visit famous places like the Pyramids. With Shouf, you could visit famous places as well as hidden gems. One last advantage that Shouf has is that it can accommodate your budget; you will find many adventures according to your needs. Feels like a dream, right?

Fosha

Our next suggestion for an app you should have when visiting Egypt is Fosha. Fosha is quite similar to Shouf, but this is a good thing. When using a certain kind of app, you would want diversity. You also might prefer the look of one app over another. Or you might like the options that one app offers and dislike another app’s options. All these reasons will make you consider using Fosha just like you would consider using Shouf.

We like Fosha because it offers unique activities and adventures to try out. You won’t be stuck with boring activities that will waste your time. Why try an online pottery course when you can visit Egypt and try a pottery workshop there? This is possible when you download Fosha as your recommendations app.

You might wonder what exactly the word Fosha means. Fosha is an Arabic word that means excursion. Excursion sounds like a heavy word, to be honest. However, Google defines it as a short journey or trip, especially a leisure activity. This is what Fosha means!

If you love the concept of Shouf, then you must already like the concept of Fosha and what it offers. So if you download this app, get ready to discover and book many activities in Egypt. Fosha will help you enjoy your visit to Egypt just like it would make you feel like a local!

Kidzapp

Since we love suggesting many different things that will fit your needs, we must also mention diverse apps. While Shouf and Fosha are two perfect apps to choose your next adventure in Egypt, they are mostly suitable for adult activities. Luckily for us, the founders of Kidzapp, our next app, thought of your kids or the younger members of your family. So let’s say you are visiting Egypt with your children or children. It would be disappointing if they missed out on any activity.

You might wonder how exactly Kidzapp solves this tiny problem. Well, Kidzapp is your perfect app to find kid-friendly activities and adventures. You will find that the app is working in Greater Cairo, Alexandria, North Coast, Hurghada, and Sharm El Sheikh. It is also nice that the app’s system is easy to use. This is because you can search activities using age, distance, and category filters.

Another thing that we love about Kidzapp is the fact that it will always fit your need. So if you are visiting Egypt and want to enjoy activities with the whole family, Kidzapp has the solution. Don’t worry if you want to enjoy some activities alone or with your partner. You can do so! Kidzapp also offers the option to find activities where you can drop off your kids and pick them up later. Just make sure to follow any necessary safety precautions.

Proof that Kidzapp is quite successful is the fact that it has been around since March 2017. What makes Kidzapp very understanding of your needs as a parent is that their team is mostly made of moms and dads. So they understand your needs. Next time you are in Egypt, you won’t have to worry about where to go with your kids!

Uber

Uber is a widely-known app, unlike Shouf and Fosha, which are only known in Egypt. It is known throughout the entire globe. You might wonder why exactly we are recommending such a famous app. We recommend it because Uber is one of the safest transport options in Egypt.

Uber is the perfect app for you to use as your transportation source. While there are taxis in Egypt, like many countries, I won’t recommend using them. Unfortunately, taxis aren’t the safest option to travel in Egypt.

You could also be deceived by the possibility of riding with a shady driver. Many taxi drivers exaggerate when they establish the fee they want. They might even refuse to tell you how much it will cost to get to your destination; they only tell you after you reach the place, so you would be forced to pay any amount they say.

On the other hand, Uber lets you know beforehand the amount you will have to pay. The driver must also show you the price on his screen so you won’t be deceived.

While Uber is safer than taxis and other transportation, I recommend you follow safety measures. For example, make sure that you check the rating of your driver. Also, try to look at the driver’s picture and whether it looks okay or shady somehow.

These reasons are enough to consider using Uber as your transportation app. It offers you safety and diversity too. You can also pick different types of vehicles, which will help you choose one that fits your budget. So you should download Uber when visiting Egypt.

Swvl

We can say that Uber is the go-to solution most of the time when looking for transportation. I’m saying “most of the time” because there is one thing that Uber lacks: more seats. Since Uber depends on cars, you can only take 2 or 3 people.

The problem is, what if you are with more than 3 people? What if you are visiting Egypt with your family and distant relatives? Or maybe visiting Egypt with a large group of friends and one Uber will not be enough. With a lack of space, Uber would not be the best solution for large groups. But don’t worry. This won’t ruin your plans in any way. Our next app suggestion will be a lifesaver for you and your group. I’m talking about Swvl.

Swvl is one of the most used transportation apps in Egypt. It’s perfect for large groups since they use buses rather than cars. Swvl’s buses have about 22 seats, so you will be okay if your group is close to that number!

Another pro that Swvl is known for is the fact that you can book a private bus for you and your family or friends. This will help you avoid riding with strangers if this will make you uncomfortable.

With what Swvl offers, you can easily choose between it and Uber according to your needs. Did I also mention that you can travel from one city to another using Swvl’s app? This is why we love Swvl!

Rabbit

Rabbit [Source: Official Instagram]

We have another app for transportation, and this time it is quite unique. As I mentioned, Uber offers you cars, and then you have Swvl, which offers you buses. You might feel that something is missing, right? This is why our next app exists. Rabbit has a unique concept that offers eclectic scooters and bikes for transportation. Their customers enjoy the service, allowing them to travel short distances. The trips are usually between 1 to 3 kilometers and may take about 15 minutes.

Like most apps, Rabbit has two options when it comes to booking. Day Rentals is available in Cairo, Giza, and Sahel. The second option is Unlock & Go which you can find in Zamalek, Sodic Real Estate, New Giza, Mivida, and Marassi.

Don’t worry. We will tell you what exactly each option offers. Through Day Rentals, you can request a vehicle to rent, which will be delivered to your doorstep in less than 24 hours. The minimum number of days to rent is two days, while the maximum limit is 30 days. On the other hand, Unlock & Go helps users to locate the nearest bike on the map. After locating it, you go to the vehicle and scan the QR code to be able to use it. Sounds amazing, right?

The app’s name, Rabbit, is because it helps users “hop from point A to point B.” A very small flaw accompanies all these amazing qualities. Unfortunately, Rabbit requires its users to be at least 16 years old to be able to use the application. So if you are coming with someone younger than 16, Rabbit won’t be the best option. However, if you and everyone in the group are over 16, get ready to make transportation fun!

Talabat

This next app is perfect for helping you when you need to order food and drinks. Talabat is one of Egypt’s most famous food delivery apps and has been around for a while. At first, Talabat was known as Otlob, and its new name means orders. It fits the services that they offer.

One important advantage of using Talabat is that it operates in about 25 cities in Egypt. So luckily for you, you will probably be staying in a city that Talabat supports. Some of the famous cities that Talabat supports are Cairo, Alexandria, Hurghada, and the 6th of October.

The app is very easy to use, and it helps you save a lot of time. Depending on the cuisine or the area, you can search for the food you want. Our only advice is to pay using Egyptian pounds through the cash-on-delivery option. This is because foreign credit cards don’t work sometimes. Besides that, Talabat will make your visit to Egypt much easier and more satisfying. No one would want to be hungry!

Drinkies

Drinkies [Source: Official Instagram]

Our last app may surprise you, but you never know when you might need it. We don’t condone excessive drinking, but we realize one might need a drink occasionally. Enjoying your favorite alcoholic beverage in Egypt is quite hard because it is a conservative country. This is why Drinkies, our last app, will help you enjoy your time in Egypt, exactly like in your country.

Unfortunately for some, you won’t find alcohol being sold in most places in Egypt. So unlike foreign countries where you can buy alcohol at supermarkets or petrol stations, Drinkies is your best solution. Drinkies started as a shop in Egypt in 1998, and it kept the top place for alcoholic beverage stores.

If you wonder what kinds of drinks Drinkies offers, you will be happy to know that they probably serve everything. So whether you want to drink fine wine, beer, or spirits, Drinkies is your man. One of the benefits of Drinkies is that they deliver your order right to your doorstep, which makes you avoid unpleasant looks.

Another reason we love Drinkies is that they don’t serve you unless you are over 21 years old. So if you decide to visit one of their stores rather than use the app, you should prepare your ID. Do you see? There are many diverse apps like Drinkies that help you enjoy visiting Egypt.

We have told you everything you need to know about the 8 apps you should have when visiting Egypt. No matter what app you might need, we got you covered. We suggested transportation apps, activities apps, and even delivery apps. We can now guarantee you that whenever you choose to use one of the apps that we suggested, you will already know everything about it!
