With this tour, you will get to visit two of the most emblematic attractions of Venice; St. Mark's Basilica and Doge's Palace with priority access and a tour guide. The Doge's Palace is located in St Mark's Square and is one of the most fascinating and culturally rich monuments in Venice. Having been the seat of political and administrative power of the Venice Republic from its birth to its end, the Palazzo Ducale is a statement to the splendor of Venice. While you are here, devout all your attention to your guide as the halls and corridors of this building carry stories that will enthrall you no bound. Explore the Opulent St. Mark's Basilica After the palace, walk into Venice’s most majestic cathedral; St Mark’s Basilica. Lay your eyes on masterpieces of Byzantine art, colorful marble installations and shimmering gold mosaic art. Squinting your eyes when you enter the Basilica is only natural, thanks to the shimmering mosaics made with 24-carat gold leaves fused onto the back of the glass to exhibit divine light. Your tour guide is likely to conduct a session wherein you sit comfortably in a certain part of the church and he explains the biblical importance and peculiarities of this ancient basilica. Watch out for tales you may never have heard of before! Mon-Sat: Your guided tour includes a visit to the Terrace with copies of the famous horses and to St. Mark's Museum, where objects from the Basilica (including the quadriga of St. Mark's) will come into the picture. The tour starts from the ground floor to see the gold mosaics (the Basilica has 43,000 square feet of mosaic alone!), in a second time the visit continues on the first floor. Sun: On feast days and unplanned religious celebrations, the tour foresees the visit with direct access to the Terrace and to St. Mark's Museum situated on the first floor. Due to the Holy Mass taking place on the ground floor, it is possible to admire the mosaics partially from the first floor.

Your half-day tour of the Venetian Lagoon and its two most beautiful islands – Murano and Burano, begins in the afternoon. Off in a small group tour in a private taxi, you will visit the islands which have a rich history and exquisite artisanship. Enroute to the islands you will be able to see Venice’s most spectacular sights along the canals. Settlement on these Venetian Islands began in the 1st century and since then each of the islands has developed their own speciality. Your first stop is at the Murano Island, famous for its glass-making art. In ancient times it was the only place where the artisans knew how to make mirrors. Their art was so valued that they were forbidden from leaving the island, for fear of their lives! You will watch an expert glass-maker at his workstation in a traditional glass-blowing factory. Your guide will translate the entire glass making process and answer all your questions about glass-making. You can buy a small glass souvenir from the workshop to remember these memories. If you have time, you can explore the rest of Murano Island which has stunning Gothic architecture. Some of the places of interest in Murano are the Palazzo da Mula, Santa Maria e Donato’s Cathedral and the Murano lighthouse. From Murano you will proceed to the island of Burano. Nearing the island you will notice the colourful homes, just as the fishermen have been doing for centuries now! The legend goes that they started painting the homes in vibrant colors so the fishermen could see their homes from the sea. While the picturesque homes itself are a visit worth to the island, its lace-making art is what you are there for. Burano’s lace-making is an ancient tradition and its women have been stitching delicate lace-work for centuries now. In fact, Michelangelo picked up an altar piece when he visited Burano for the then newly constructed Duomo in Milan. You will visit a shop and watch the women in action. You can also take back your own lace item as a souvenir on a discount. After the lace shop visit, you can explore the island and savour the goodies at one of the local bakeries in the Galuppi Square. You will head back to Venice and back to the humdrum of the city, treasuring the memories of an ancient era gone by!

About Venice

Venice, a city like no other, floats on the dreams of its visitors, cradled by the gentle waters of its lagoons. A mosaic of 118 islands, linked by over 400 bridges, each step in Venice is a brush with history and romance. This city thrives on its contrasts; ancient churches back onto bustling modern cafes, serene backwaters sit moments from lively squares. Art and architecture dominate the scene, with the past glory of the Venetian Republic echoing through the cobblestoned streets. Yet, Venice is more than a relic; it's a living, breathing city. Its carnivals burst with color, its markets buzz with the dialects of the world, and its cuisine brings to life the bounty of the Adriatic. Venice invites you to lose yourself in its narrow alleys, discover hidden gems, and experience the timeless magic that has enchanted travelers for centuries.

Travel Tips for Venice

Venice, with its intricate waterways and rich history, presents a unique travel experience. To navigate this city gracefully, consider these practical tips. Firstly, walking alongside the canals often proves more rewarding than relying solely on vaporetti (water buses). Yet, when crossing wider channels or reaching distant islands like Murano or Burano, these boats become indispensable. Plan accommodations ahead, as Venice's charm has it brimming with visitors year-round. Opt for a stay in Dorsoduro or Cannaregio for a quieter vibe, yet remain within reach of the city's heart. Cultural etiquette tips—greet locals with a friendly 'Buongiorno', respect the tranquility of its residential areas, and always ask before photographing people. These simple gestures ensure a harmonious visit, imbuing your journey with local warmth and welcome.

Local Cuisine of Venice

The culinary scene in Venice is as mesmerizing as its landscape. Seafood plays a starring role, with dishes like Sarde in Saor, a sweet and sour sardine plate, reflecting the city's spice trade history. Risotto al nero di seppia, with its striking black squid ink, offers a taste of the lagoon. For a sweet treat, don’t miss out on Fritole, Venetian doughnuts, especially abundant during Carnival. Traditional bacari (wine bars) dot the city, offering cicchetti, Venetian tapas, perfect for a quick bite alongside a glass of local wine.
