There is no better place to watch the cityscape of Sapporo than from the spectacular Observation Deck at JR Tower. This popular tourist attraction is open 12 hours a day so that visitors can choose between the clear blue skies of early mornings and the dreamy atmosphere of late evenings for their visit. You can begin your experience by making your way to the Observation Deck from the 6F floor of the tower. Choose one of the two observatory elevators that will take you to the 38th floor in less than one minute. Once there, you can’t help but feel amazed at the vast landscape stretching in every direction. The great views of Ishikari Bay New Port will greet you in the north. Similarly, delight at the sight of the Ishikari River as well as the Yubaridake and Ashibetsudake mountains (on a clear day) in the east. Turn your gaze to the south to find the renowned Sapporo Dome stadium and central Sapporo, which looks very much like a grid. To the west, look out for Hokkaido University and Mt. Teine. If you visit during the winter, get to witness the remarkable sight of a snow-capped Mt. Teine. A fascinating trivia about the mountain is that it held Asia’s first-ever Winter Olympic Games in 1972! Appreciate the Various Personalized Touches at the Observation Deck The Observation Deck itself is designed with stylish artwork to offer a pleasant ambiance for visitors during their time there. A quirky feature of this place is that the men’s restroom is equipped with full-sized windows! The women’s restroom also features a similar design, albeit with more strategic coverage. Lastly, sit back at T’Cafe located in the south corridor of the deck, and sip on a cup of tea/coffee or a glass of red wine/cocktails to mark this wonderful experience.
