You can start your trip from either the Shin-Osaka or Kyoto train station, where you will embark on the Shinkansen bullet train. Once you arrive, the bus will drive around the 16th-century Hiroshima Castle. It was destroyed by the atomic bomb in 1945 but was later restored in 1958. The bus will next stop at the Atomic Bomb Dome in the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. You can step out and examine the drastic scene left behind by the first atomic bomb ever dropped in the history of the world. The Atomic Bomb Dome, although severely damaged, is the only standing structure left behind from the nuclear attack. The next stop on this tour is the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. Go through its collection, which includes myriads of photographs and items left behind by the nuclear attack victims. It’s time to stop by a local restaurant for lunch. You will be served a Hiroshima-style Okonomiyaki, which is more like a crispy crepe packed with tantalizing flavors served with pork, noodles, bean sprouts, and cabbage. Experience the Riches of Miyajima Island The next part of the tour will take you to the ferry and proceed towards the Itsukushima Shrine, located a small 10-minute ferry ride away. Built in the 13th century, this Shinto shrine comprises multiple buildings that are connected by boardwalks. Visit its main hall, prayer hall, and noh theatre stage, among other buildings, and pay your respects while there. The dramatic-looking torii gate marks the entrance to the shrine and is equally popular among tourists. It is a sight to behold even from a distance on the ferry. The last part of the tour involves you exploring Miyajima Island on your own. The remarkable tour will draw to a close after you are taken back to your starting point where you can board the Shinkansen bullet train to Osaka or Kyoto.
