Another underrated city in Europe is Koper, Slovenia. Koper is a port city that is often overlooked in favor of Piran. Once you step foot in Koper, you will notice the Venetian influence in the streets. The city’s rich history is underappreciated as not many crowds head there. This allows you to enjoy the city without being bothered by crowds. Some of the historical landmarks that you will fall in love with are the Praetorian Palace, the Cathedral of St. Mary’s Assumption, and Tito Square.

Koper doesn’t just have amazing landmarks, but it also has great views. You can head up to Bell Tower to witness Koper’s beautiful views. If you want to taste the cuisine there, head to Carpaccio Square, where markets offer delicious food and more. The White Tower in Thessaloniki

Underrated European cities don’t end at Koper and Innsbruck; there is also Thessaloniki in Greece. Many people head to Greece hoping to see Athens, which makes many people not appreciate Thessaloniki or what it offers. It has so much to offer. In November 2021, UNESCO named Thessaloniki as Greece’s “City of Gastronomy.” This title tells you all you need to know about the cuisine there. Another thing that makes Thessaloniki distinct is that it is rich with different cultures; this influenced the architecture there. Therefore, you will find Greek, Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman influences.

Since Thessaloniki is the second largest city in Greece, you will find many things to do and explore. There are ancient ruins, museums, churches, stores, and many more things waiting for you to explore. We recommend you check out the Rotunda and the White Tower to see Thessaloniki’s landmarks. So head to Greece’s culinary capital to taste amazing food such as bougatsa. Don’t miss enjoying the nightlife scene there.

Our next underrated city in Europe is Narbonne, which is in France. Narbonne remains underrated in Southwest France as travelers prefer more popular destinations. Despite this, it is safe to say that those choosing popular destinations are missing out a lot on the beauty of Narbonne. At Narbonne, you will find that you can easily access the beach there, which is perfect for a summer trip. If you want to connect with nature even more, then head to the Regional Natural Park of Narbonne, where you can see flamingos. There is also the option to go horseback riding through the park there.

We can’t ignore Narbonne’s historical landmarks, such as the Horreum, an underground Roman warehouse. There is also Cathédrale Saint-Just-et-Saint-Pasteur, also known as the Narbonne Cathedral. It is the right destination for you if you prefer Gothic architecture. Fun fact about the cathedral: it remains unfinished until today, which is another reason why it is special. Finally, stop by Les Halles de Narbonne, a fresh produce market. You will love it if you love food, and who doesn’t?

Vilnius, Lithuania

Despite being a capital, Vilnius in Lithuania is one of the most underrated cities in Europe. Many people choose capitals such as Vienna instead of giving Vilnius a chance. You will probably fall in love with Vilnius from the first look when you see its beautiful buildings and cobblestone streets. Head to the Old Town, which feels like you have returned in time. You will see their amazing historical landmarks, such as the Gediminas Castle Tower; the view from there is nothing short of astonishing.

If you are an art enthusiast, you will be happy to know that Vilnius is filled with street art. If you want to see more of it, we recommend going to the Užupis neighborhood, where many examples of street art exist. But art and historical landmarks aren’t the only things Vilnius offers. You can also find parks to appreciate, such as Vingis Park. We can’t talk about Vilnius and not mention the culinary scene there. Many great restaurants await you to try in this underrated capital. Some of the best restaurants in Vilnius are Sweet Root and Senoji Trobele. It is certainly a unique experience to try Lithuanian cuisine in the streets of Vilnius.

Our next underrated European city is Ljubljana in Slovenia. While Ljubljana has been gaining attention recently, it remains underrated compared to popular destinations. Inside Ljubljana, you will find many cafes and bars that make up the city’s nightlife scene. You can check out the parks in the morning since Ljubljana is almost like a green oasis. One example is Tivoli Park, which can help you relax and forget about life’s troubles. If you want to see some museums, rest assured that Ljubljana has some too! You can glimpse Ljubljana’s heritage in the Museum of Contemporary Art Metelkova and the National Museum of Slovenia.

Another reason I love Ljubljana is how sustainable this city is. Ljubljana has a car-free city center, plus an extensive cycling network. So you won’t have to worry about noise in these pedestrian spots. Ljubljana’s location is also unique since it has a river called the Ljubljanica River running through it. You can check out some cafes and restaurants next to it. The best part about the city might be the cozy vibes you will feel once there. Since Ljubljana is small, you won’t feel lost in a huge place. Cozy vibes are almost always better than crowded places.

Lake Ohrid in Ohrid

Besides Lake Ohrid, you can see the Church of St. John at Kaneo and admire the architecture there. If you are looking for entertainment, you should head to the Ancient Macedonian Theatre of Ohrid. There are also buildings in Byzantine style, such as the Zamora Cathedral. This is enough evidence that the architecture at Zamora won’t disappoint you. Perhaps one thing that Zamora is known for is its Holy Week celebrations. The artistic floats can only be described as beautiful.

We can’t possibly talk about Zamora without recommending its rich cuisine. There are some dishes that you simply have to try, such as Zamorano cheese, which is a local sheep’s milk cheese. We also recommend arroz a la zamorana, which is rice cooked with meat and then gets finished in an oven. Head to the wineries of Toro to taste some unforgettable wine. Finally, if you are into slow travel,l then Zamora is perfect for you. With its lack of crowds, Zamora should be enjoyed slowly without any rush.
