Cannes Film Festival: Tickets, Lineup And Winners

Movie fanatics are likely familiar with the legendary Cannes Film Festival. This highly publicized annual event enters its 78th year in 2025. Since its inception in 1946, the film festival has showcased diverse films and launched new movements like the French New Wave. It also offers a platform for launching careers for new filmmakers. In this blog, we will discuss everything there is to know about Cannes, including 2025 dates, selected movies, and invitations.

Who Gets Invited To Cannes?

Cannes Film Festival
Film industry professionals can only walk down the Cannes Film Festival’s red carpet.

Can a regular person go to Cannes? This question is frequently in people’s minds. This annual film festival is exclusively reserved for film industry professionals, including actors, actresses, artistic agencies, authors, directors, writers, cinema owners, film school students, producers, film technicians, music-related professionals, and press-media. Every participant must have festival accreditation to access the Palais des Festivals and the Marché du Film. Likewise, screening selection goes through a thorough process. Cannes’ Selection Committee is in charge of the official selection and decides which section a movie can participate in. Several sections include In Competition, Un Certain Regard, Out of Competition, Midnight Screenings, Cannes Premieres, and Special Screenings.

Although this film festival is primarily for industry professionals, movie fanatics aged 18 to 28 can participate through the “3 Days in Cannes” program. To get accreditation, interested individuals must submit the application form with an ID document, an ID photo, and a love letter to the cinema. They can also attach a letter about their professional project in a few words. In 2025, three sessions of three days are open to participants:

  • Session 1: May 14 (Wednesday) to May 16 (Friday)
  • Session 2: May 19 (Monday) to May 21 (Wednesday)
  • Session 3: May 22 (Thursday) to May 24 (Saturday)

Men must wear a dinner jacket or tuxedo with a bow tie, while women must wear an evening or cocktail dress. Even if you can’t catch film screenings in Cannes, these movies are theatrically released in France and other countries after the festival’s end in late May. There might be slight delays depending on the country’s specific media regulations.
