Our first recommendation is very well-known among the locals in Alexandria. We can’t talk about restaurants in Alexandria without mentioning seafood restaurants; like have you seen the sea in Alexandria?

You won’t have to pick between the food and the view because White and Blue Restaurant, our first recommendation, can give you both! But don’t be confused if you heard someone call it the Greek Club; this is the common name among locals. It falls more under the fine dining category.

Now let’s talk about the food. The Greek Club serves seafood along with some Greek dishes; that’s why it has Greek in its name! Now, most places in Egypt don’t serve alcohol due to traditions. However, if you are someone who can’t enjoy their food without a glass of wine or some beer then it’s your lucky day; the Greek Club offers both.

No one can disagree with the fact that eating is always better if it’s accompanied by a great view. So the Greek Club’s location is perfect if you want to experience the beauty of the Mediterranean sea in Alexandria.

  • Location: Qaitbay Str. Third Floor, Alexandria 21599 Egypt.
  • Opening hours: the entire week from 12 pm till 12 am.

Mohamed Ahmed

Our next suggestion is a must-visit if you want to experience Alexandria the same way the locals experience it. So if you want to try traditional food in Alexandria then you need to visit Mohamed Ahmed restaurants; no fine dining here, but the simplicity of it has its own beauty.

You can consider Mohamed Ahmed restaurant as a piece of history because it has been open since 1957; that’s more than 60 years!

As I just mentioned, Mohamed Ahmed serves traditional food so it’s only normal to eat fuul and falafel there. Fuul and falafel are traditional Egyptian food that deserves trying it! Additional information, the beans used in making fuul are fava beans.

Not only does Mohamed Ahmed serve fuul and falafel but there are many traditional food items on the menu! You can try roasted eggplant, tahini, baba ganoush, and pickled vegetables; amazing right?

While all these foods are known to be served at breakfast, you can eat them at any time during the day at Mohamed Ahmed. Another benefit is that you can try as many items as you want since Mohamed Ahmed’s prices are very reasonable and affordable.

  • Location: 17 Shokour St., Raml Station, Alexandria, Egypt.
  • Opening hours: open 24/7.

Fish Market

We won’t be doing justice to Alexandria if we mentioned only one seafood restaurant; you just can’t. So if you thought that we will only suggest the Greek Club as the only destination for seafood lovers, you will find the opposite.

The restaurant I’m talking about is one of the most famous seafood restaurants in Alexandria, Egypt. You won’t even need to guess what it serves, which is seafood because its name is the Fish Market.

Be prepared to eat some of the best seafood that you will ever experience; especially in Alexandria. The Mediterranean sea allows any seafood restaurant, including the Fish Market, to always have fresh fish.

Not only is the food great, but the view will seal the deal for you! Just like the Greek Club, the Fish Market offers a great view along with its amazing dishes. Try to sit at a table by a window so that you can enjoy viewing the Citadel of Qaitbay.

Locals and also tourists make sure to eat at the Fish Market; it is a pretty well-known place. When it comes to the prices, they are reasonable but not cheap; the food quality explains why the prices may be higher than in other places.

I can’t tell you a fixed price range because here in Alexandria, fish prices change a lot. So most items on the Fish Market’s menu will have different prices at different times. And you can’t really have fish without having a drink with it, so you would enjoy the fact that they offer wine too!

  • Location: Bahary, El Korneish Road, 26 July Next to Sea Scouts Club.
  • Opening hours: the entire week from 12 pm to 12 am.

Balbaa Village For Grills

This next restaurant has no competitors when it comes to grill and barbecuing. Its official name is Balbaa Village For Grills, but the locals in Alexandria call it Balbaa Village. Both names are totally fine for you to use; there will be no confusion at all.

In fact, if you just said the word Balbaa you will find everyone in Alexandria recognizing the restaurant from only this one word. That’s how famous Balbaa Village is!

Like Mohamed Ahmed, Balbaa Village is considered a historical restaurant in Alexandria. It has been working since 1980 and it hasn’t stopped since. The menu has many items you can pick from, so it won’t be hard to find many things you want to try.

Along with offering different kinds of grilled meat, Balbaa Village also offers grilled fish; at this point, we can call Alexandria the city of both seafood and meat dishes. On its official website, Balbaa Village states that they only use chicken and ducks that are taken from their own farms. On the other hand, the fish is cooked straight out of the sea so it is also fresh.

After all of this information, it’s safe to say that we can categorize Balbaa Village into the traditional and local restaurant categories.

Chez Gaby au Ritrovo

If you want to eat Italian pizza but you are in Alexandria, don’t worry, you can still do that. The solution to such a craving is the famous Italian pizza restaurant in Alexandria called Chez Gaby au Ritrovo. Most people call it Chez Gaby so we will stick to that.

You probably noticed by now that most of the places I mentioned have been around for a long time; that tells you how good they must be if they managed to survive for many years. Chez Gaby is not that different from those restaurants. The Italian restaurant has been open in Alexandria since 1979; such a long time!

Perhaps one of the reasons for their success and longevity is the fact that Chez Gaby is a family business. Another wholesome fact is that they have pizzas named after family members and friends.

The place’s style is taverna-style so you will like the atmosphere for sure. When it comes to food, be prepared to eat some of the best Italian pizza, pasta, and other Italian dishes. You probably guessed this when you read that it is an Italian restaurant, but Chez Gaby also serves wine and beer.

It has everything one might ask for, right? The cherry on top is that their customers praise the great staff there. And yes before you ask, the prices are reasonable!

  • Location: 22 El Horreya Rd, 21599 Alexandria, Egypt.
  • Opening hours: Thursday and Friday 2 pm – 12 am. Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday 2 pm – 11 pm. They are closed on Monday.

Byblos Restaurant

Our last suggestion for the day is not an Egyptian restaurant when it comes to the kind of food they offer; just like Chez Gaby. This will be Byblos Restaurant which is a Lebanese restaurant. So if you are looking for a fancy restaurant, or a formal restaurant according to their website, then head to Byblos Restaurant.

Byblos Restaurant offers you a unique experience as their food is more than delicious and it will satisfy your eyes through the way they present it. Not only do they offer Lebanese dishes, but they also offer Syrian ones; so you can try food from different countries without leaving Alexandria, Egypt. Great, right?

Byblos Restaurant is one of the restaurants at the Four Seasons Hotel at San Stefano Alexandria; despite that, it is probably the most famous one there. Another advantage is the jaw-dropping view of the Mediterranean which adds more beauty to the elegant atmosphere.

The only thing we should give you a heads-up about is the prices there. All the good things we mentioned are the reason behind Byblos Restaurant being the most expensive restaurant on our list. But what’s the beauty of life if you don’t try such a restaurant at least once?

  • Location: 399 El Geish Road Four Seasons Hotel Alexandria at San Stefano, Alexandria 21599 Egypt.
  • Opening hours: the entire week 2 pm – 12 am.
