Pie Susu (Milk Pie)
This legendary snack is a 100% must-have! Sweet and savory, Balinese milk pie comes in many flavors: chocolate, cheese, almond, etc. However, I recommend you try the original flavor as it’s the best. You can buy it in an individual single packaging or buy the souvenir set in a box. It can last for about a month in the fridge, so you can bring it home safely. As this is a very common snack, you can buy it in almost every supermarket, souvenir shop, and traditional market.
Price range: Rp21,000 ~ 30,000 (US$1.40 ~ 2.00) / 10pcs
Kacang Disco (Disco Peanuts)
Now you might be wondering… Disco? As in dancing and partying? Yep! Every bite of this peanut will make flavors burst into your mouth, and you’ll like it so much you’ll start dancing. Disco peanuts are deep-fried and seasoned with various spices, making them salty, spicy, and sweet simultaneously. My family loves this peanut so much that we buy it whenever we visit Bali. We usually buy them at Krisna Souvenir Center.
About Krisna Souvenir Center: Did you know Krisna is Southeast Asia’s biggest souvenir and gift marketplace? They have seven huge market centers across Bali in major areas like Sunset Road and Nusa Dua Complex. You can find almost everything on this list there!
Krisna Sunset Road: Jl. Sunset Road No.88, Kuta, Kec. Kuta, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361
Price range: Rp25,000 ~ 35,000 (US$1.70 ~ 2.40) / 400g
Kopi Kintamani (Kintamani Coffee)
As one of the biggest coffee producers in Indonesia, Bali has various coffee beans you can’t find elsewhere. One of them is Kintamani coffee. Kintamani coffee is slightly sour with a citrus flavor, named after the beautiful mountain region in Nothern Bali. They are grown in citrus fields. Enjoy this coffee at Kintamani coffee shops while admiring the mountain view or buy the beans to bring home to your fellow coffee lovers.
Price range: Rp55,000 ~ 100,000 (US$3.70 ~ 6.70) / 200g
Batik Bali
Classic Indonesian must-have here! Batik is our national clothing, and every Indonesian region has different batik motifs and fabrics. You can try the traditional Balinese batik outfit, batik kebaya for women, or modern-style batik shirts, skirts, and headpieces. An authentic Balinese batik motif is the Singo Barong. This motif shows the barong head pattern with a grin and sharp fangs. Singo Barong is a mythical beast and ruler of the jungle in Javanese folklore. You can buy batik clothes and fabrics in traditional markets or shopping centers. I recommend going to the Ubud Art Market (Pasar Seni Ubud) for a wide selection of Batik and traditional Balinese outfits!
Ubud Art Market: Jl. Raya Ubud No.35, Ubud, Kecamatan Ubud, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali 80571
Price range: Rp100,000 ~ 400,000 (US$6.70 ~ 27.00)
Arak Bali
Bali is also famous for its wine and alcoholic drink. Arak Bali is made from fermented coconut juice or brown rice. The process of making this is very traditional and uses local resources. A famous brand of Arak Bali is Dewi Sri, produced since 1968, which you can find in gift shops and airport duty-free centers.
Price range: Rp25,000 ~ 40,000 (US$1.70 ~ 2.70) / bottle (600ml)
Tas Rotan (Rattan Bag)
You’ve probably seen many tourists and locals wearing this beautiful bag around. Rattan is a wooden material made from natural abaca strands (palm). It’s woven into a circular bag with hand-painted motifs and decorations like flowers and seashells. You can find them in various shapes, designs, and colors. In addition to gift stores and street shops, rattan bags can be found at Kumbasari Art Market and Sukawati Art Market.
Kumbasari Art Market: Jl. Gajah Mada, Pemecutan, Kec. Denpasar Bar., Kota Denpasar, Bali 80111

Coconut Shell Crafts (Kerajinan Batok Kelapa)
Besides wooden and bamboo crafts and carving, Balinese craftsmen also use coconut shells to produce these unique items. Cups, teapots, bowls, animal statues, and even beautiful intricate carvings for authentic home decor. You can find them mostly in street shops or at art markets. If you’re staying in Gianyar, you can visit Tampaksiring to see the process of making these coconut handicrafts. There is also the center of the coconut shell craft industry located in Banjar Sarimertha in Negaru Village, Klungking, which you can visit.
Price range: Rp130,000 ~ 300,000 (US$8.80 ~ 20.00)
Babi Guling
Time for my favorite food in Bali. Babi Guling is a slow-roasted pig stuffed with authentic Indonesian spices, juicy meat, and crispy pork skin. It’s often served with rice, satay, lawar vegetable, broth, crackers, pig innards, and sambal. Usually, they’re eaten during celebrations and ceremonies, but you can find them everywhere in Bali. Some restaurants also offer frozen packaged Babi Guling you can bring home and store in the fridge for five days. My favorite Babi Guling restaurant is the Karya Rebo Babi Guling Restaurant. Worth trying!
- Karya Rebo Restaurant: Jl. Toyaning No.1, Kedonganan, Kec. Kuta, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361
- Open hours: 8 AM – 9 PM
- Price range: Rp45,000 ~ 55,000 (US$3.00 ~ 3.70)
Balinese Homemade Soap
Miss the calming floral scent of your resort and hotel? Then buy some of these natural soaps before you return home. They are made from various flower extracts, including coconut, honey, frangipani, and others. They leave your skin moisturized and soft with natural ingredients native to Bali. Variations include bath salt, bath bomb, moisturizer, oil, etc. So every time you take a bath, you’ll be reminded of your amazing stay in Bali!
Price range: Rp9,000 ~ 12,000 (US$0.60 ~ 0.80)
Balinese Chocolate
This one is for you, sweet tooth! Balinese chocolate is one of the best things to buy in Bali for everyone of all ages. It is often mixed with fruity flavors like citrus, strawberry, and matcha. They can be quite bitter from the deep dark chocolate flavor, but it has a very nice aftertaste that doesn’t make them too sweet. There is even a Chocolate Village in Bali where you can see the chocolate plantation and the process of making one. See more on Instagram @desacoklatbali.
Price range: Rp30,000 ~ 70,000 (US$2.00 ~ 4.70) / 50~80g
Salak Bali (Bali Snakeskin Fruit)
Yep, you read it right. Salak is a fruit local to Indonesia, so they don’t have an English name. We translate it to snakeskin because of the scaly texture of the skin, similar to snakeskin. Compared to other types of salak, Balinese salak has a sweeter taste and smaller seeds. You can get this fruit at the nearest traditional or modern market.
Price range: Rp15,000 ~ 20,000 (US$1.00 ~ 1.35) / Kg
Sarung Kain Bali (Balinese Fabric)
These ‘sarung’ are usually what we wear when we go to the beach as a cover. They have very distinctive motifs, ranging from flowers to colorful abstract motifs. Usually, when you go to sacred places like a temple (Pura), you must cover your shorts with a sarung as a form of politeness and modesty. These fabrics are sold anywhere, especially near the beaches, and are among the best things to buy in Bali for your loved ones.
Price range: Rp20,000 ~ 50,000 (US$1.40 ~ 3.40)
Celuk Art Village Jewelry
Anywhere you go, jewelry is a popular choice for souvenirs. But you can find silversmiths in Bali who have produced beautiful objects for decades and are pretty tribal traditional Balinese. Here, the goldsmiths and blacksmiths do an outstanding job with the intricate design work.
Visit the Celuk Art Village, renowned for producing silver jewelry sets with precious and semi-precious stones, to locate some of the best bargains. You will find everything from simple earrings and bracelets to elaborate pendants, rings, and armbands! We highly recommend checking out the Balinese Silver Jewelry Class Program in the charming village of Celuk. It’s a fantastic opportunity to tap into your creative side while learning about the intricate art of Balinese silver jewelry making.
Spa Essentials
Whether it’s an essential oil vial, incense sticks, aromatherapy massage oils, or organic soaps, bring a tiny part of the Balinese spa experience home. Several BodyShop locations and other Southeast Asian spa destinations include tropical flower scents, like frangipani and jasmine. Still, the Indonesian herbal Jammu and Bali’s spicy boreh body scrub are highly distinctive.
Where to Buy: Most significant standalone and in-resort spas in Bali sell their spa goods.
Wood Furniture
Balinese woodcarvers can create such detailed figures, so it stands to reason that they can also create far simpler but no less beautiful wooden homeware and utensils. They include coasters, placemats, reed baskets in various sizes, and bowls and spoons that have been neatly formed from jackfruit wood, teakwood roots, or coconut shells. All of them come in colorful rainbow patterns or single colors.
Places to buy: gift shops, art galleries, and home goods stores
Price range: a modest woven fruit basket starts at Rp 150,000 ($9.91).
Herbs and spices
This one is also one of the great items to buy in Bali. The rich and exotic herbs and spices used in local Indonesian and Balinese cuisine, which are grown in the lovely tropical climate of the islands, are the secret to their flavors and smells. In actuality, colonists fought over the islands in the Indonesian archipelago for centuries because of the spice trade. Thankfully, there is no justification for fighting over chilies in the modern era. You can take some of that heat home with the various spices offered in convenient packets at modern supermarkets and traditional markets. Even pre-made sambal dips are available in fresh, portable bottles.
Where to buy: almost all Bali morning markets and supermarkets are good places to buy.
Prince range: starting at only Rp 5,000 ($0.33)
Arts
In addition to highlighting its indigenous produce, Bali highlights its artisans’ exceptional talent by spotlighting the products they create. For every visitor who comes to Bali, they remain one of the best things to buy. Suppose you want to bring an authentic piece of Bali into your home. In that case, these handicrafts—from handmade terracotta to vintage furniture—are the absolute must-haves to acquire when shopping in Bali, Indonesia.
Where to buy: Stop by the Sukawati or Ubud market if you want traditional goods. In addition to these, you can go to Seminyak’s Souq or Mercredi boutiques.
Legong Pastries
One of the most well-liked foods is flaky Chinese pastries. The Pia Legong, regarded as the originator of Legong pastry, is the ideal place to get these sweets. There cannot be a day when their store does not have a long line of customers. Hence, you may anticipate receiving delectable, freshly cooked pastries. Nonetheless, numerous shops sell Legong pastries, albeit their flavor differs from Pia Legong. Three flavors predominate: mung bean, cheese, and chocolate. Make sure to arrive early morning if you plan to purchase these pastries from Pia Legong because they only produce a small quantity. You can also place an order a day in advance by calling them.
