Best Safari Blue Boat Tours & Excursions

Across the 70 tour options we compare on booking platforms, most fall within the $80–$150 range, with a median price of $120. While you can find some entry-level experiences starting around $72, premium private charters or specialized packages can reach up to $375. For the best value, sticking to the core group or standard guided tours in the median band usually covers all essentials without the private markup.

The overwhelming majority of these experiences focus on nature and water-based exploration. When comparing the options, snorkeling is the most common activity, appearing in 71% of the tours, followed by general boat tours at 57%. Since nearly all options (99%) are tagged as nature-focused, you can expect marine wildlife and island scenery rather than urban cultural sites. A smaller share includes adventure elements or specific safari-style game viewing.

Yes, private tours are quite common for this experience compared to other destinations. About one-third of the options we compare (24 out of 70) are designated as private tours. This higher availability means you have flexibility if you prefer a dedicated guide and boat for your group, though it will likely place you toward the higher end of the price spectrum.

These are generally full-day commitments. The median duration across the listed options is 8 hours, with most tours falling between 6 and 10 hours. Because they involve travel to offshore islands and multiple stops, you should plan to set aside most of your day rather than looking for quick half-day excursions.

Most operators bundle the essentials so you do not need to budget for extras on the water. The largest share of options include meals (66%), and roughly half provide a professional guide. It is also common to find drinks included in about a third of the tours, along with snorkeling equipment provided for about a third of them. Hotel pickup and drop-off are less universal, appearing in only about 29% of the listings.

Booking ahead is recommended, especially for peak seasons. While only a small fraction of the options (about 1%) are currently flagged as likely to sell out, the high demand for nature-based activities in Zanzibar means popular time slots fill quickly. Additionally, since 71% of the tours offer instant confirmation, you can often secure your spot last minute, but early booking guarantees your preferred date and language guide.
