Aerial Tours Over Wānaka & Southern Alps

Across the 18 tour options we compare on booking platforms, prices generally fall between $237 and $465, with a median cost of around $332. While you may occasionally see listings outside this spread (ranging from about $224 to $725), the majority of experiences sit comfortably within that core band. Booking in advance is often recommended, as roughly 11% of these tours are flagged likely to sell out.

The duration varies significantly depending on the specific itinerary you choose. Most flights last between 25 minutes and 5 hours, with the median experience being around 1 hour. When selecting an option, be sure to check the specific time commitment, as shorter hops offer a quick glimpse while longer tours provide extended aerial coverage.

Almost all the options we compare are structured as guided experiences. Specifically, 67% of the tours are classified as guided tours, while 33% are group tours. This means you will typically have a pilot or guide providing commentary and managing the logistics, rather than flying completely solo. Private tours are also available but represent only a small fraction (11%) of the total inventory.

Flights are currently offered in 2 languages: English and Chinese. If you require commentary or support in a language other than these two, you should verify the specific details of the listing before booking, as multilingual guides are not standard across all operators.

There are limited choices if sustainability or young children are your primary focus. Only one option (6%) is tagged as eco-friendly, so do not assume certification without checking the operator's specific practices. Similarly, only 11% of the tours are explicitly tagged as family-friendly. While many scenic flights accommodate families, it is wise to confirm age restrictions and safety requirements directly with the provider.

Inclusions vary by operator, but most basic tickets cover the flight itself. Across the options we compare, 11% include hotel pickup and drop-off, and another 11% feature a dedicated guide. It is common to find that canopy flight paths are part of the standard route, but amenities like meals or premium photography packages are rarely included in the base price.
