Best Venice Boat Tours: Grand Canal & Murano

The tours we compare across booking platforms typically range from $29 to $290, with a median price of $91. While the full spread can extend from around $21 to $318 depending on the specific operator and inclusions, most standard shared boat tours fall within that central band. Private experiences generally sit at the higher end of this spectrum.

Most options include a professional guide (79% of listings), though not all provide the actual boat ride or entry tickets separately. When you look at what is bundled together, the most common inclusions are:

• A guided commentary (available on nearly all tours)
• The boat ride itself (included in about half the options)
• Entry tickets to sites like the glass factory (also included in roughly half)

Keep in mind that some listings only cover the guide fee while requiring you to pay for transport or tickets separately, so check the description carefully before booking.

You should plan for approximately 3 hours as the typical duration. Across the options we compare, experiences usually last between 2 and 4.8 hours. Shorter boat cruises might take just two hours, while comprehensive packages that combine a canal cruise with a glassblowing demonstration and factory visit often run closer to five hours.

Yes, private tours are quite common for this experience compared to other city activities. About 36% of the options we compare are tagged as private tours, meaning you can hire a dedicated boat and guide exclusively for your group. This format allows for more flexibility in pacing and stops along the Grand Canal.

These tours are widely accessible, offered in 8 languages: English, Spanish, French, Italian, German, Chinese, Japanese, and Russian. Since the majority of operators cater to international tourists, finding a guide in your preferred language is generally straightforward, especially for the larger group boat tours.

The primary mode of transport is by boat (71% of options). Depending on the specific itinerary, this may involve a standard vaporetto-style water bus, a smaller private water taxi (29%), or a shuttle boat (14%). Most tours also include a walking component (14%) once you arrive at Murano to visit the glass factories.

Booking ahead is highly recommended. These tours hold an average rating of 4.24 stars based on 175 pooled reviews, with travelers frequently describing the guides as "wonderful" and the artistry as "amazing." Because popular time slots sell out quickly, securing your spot in advance ensures you get the best value and availability, particularly for the private boat rides which are in high demand.
