Prices generally reflect the inclusion of equipment and instruction.

About half of the tours we compare are guided group experiences, while roughly a third (4 out of 11) are private tours. Private sessions allow for personalised feedback on your swordsmanship techniques, which reviewers frequently praise as a truly memorable part of the activity. If you prefer learning at your own pace without waiting for others, the private format is worth the premium.

You can join these cultural experiences in five languages: English, Japanese, Spanish, German, and French. Since the activity is deeply rooted in Japanese history and etiquette, having an instructor who speaks your language clearly helps ensure you understand the nuances of the techniques and the historical context.

Most sessions last between 1.5 and 2 hours. This duration allows enough time for a brief introduction to the history of the samurai sword, safety instructions, and hands-on practice of basic forms. It is a substantial enough commitment to feel like a complete cultural immersion rather than just a quick photo opportunity.

When comparing listings, about half include a dedicated guide, and roughly a third provide all necessary equipment such as the iaito (practice sword) and protective gear. Most packages also cover all fees and taxes, so there are rarely hidden costs. However, because only a minority of options explicitly list every inclusions, it is wise to check the specific itinerary before booking.

Booking ahead is highly recommended. While some options offer instant confirmation, many require prior scheduling due to the specialised nature of the activity and the limited availability of instructors. Given the high average rating of 4.91 stars across pooled reviews, popular slots tend to fill up quickly, especially during peak tourist seasons.
