Siena's medieval streets are pedestrian-only. Use local buses for longer distances, or explore on foot. The city center is compact and walkable within 30 minutes.

Arrive days early and camp in the Piazza del Campo center for free viewing. Book balcony seats months ahead. Standing room in the piazza is free but crowded.

Eat where locals do: small trattorias in side streets away from the Piazza. Try lunch menus for better prices. Avoid restaurants with picture menus or heavy English signage.
