Selous Safari in Selous Game Reserve Travel Guide

Across the options we compare, Selous is primarily a nature and wildlife experience. Safari tours are the most common format, and every listed option is themed around nature and wildlife. That makes this page much more about game viewing and time in the reserve than about general sightseeing.

Among the tours we compare, most Selous Safari options sit around $353–$873, with a median price of $800. There is a wider overall spread, roughly $45–$2,520, so the cheapest and priciest listings are outliers rather than the norm. In practice, that means it is worth comparing carefully if you're deciding between a shorter safari and a multi day stay.

Private tours are very common here. About 71% of the options we compare are private, which is unusually high for this kind of experience. If you want a quieter trip, more flexibility, or a safari that feels less like a standard group outing, Selous is a strong fit.

The options we compare range from about 2 hours to 5 days, with a typical duration of 2 days. That tells us Selous is often booked as more than a quick excursion, especially if you want time for wildlife viewing plus lodge based stays or meals that are bundled into the trip.

Inclusions vary, but a few features come up repeatedly across booking platforms:

• A guide is included on most options
• Accommodation is included on about two fifths
• Meals are included on about two fifths
• Entry tickets are included on about a third

That mix makes Selous better suited to travellers comparing full safari packages, not just a basic entry style booking.

The most common ways to experience Selous are on foot, by boat, and by car. Walking appears most often among the options we compare, with boat based trips also fairly common. That variety is useful if you're choosing between a more immersive wildlife outing and a classic vehicle based safari.

Yes, usually. All of the options we compare offer instant confirmation, and most also offer free cancellation, so booking ahead is relatively low risk. Review signals are strong too, with an average of 4.73★ across 31 reviews combined across booking platforms, and about 93% positive sentiment on the products we analysed. Travellers repeatedly mention an amazing experience, super friendly service, and even absolutely delicious food, though a small number say the lodge standard was not as per sale.

Fly for speed and comfort. Road transfers are cheaper but long, often 5 to 7 hours depending on camp access.

Pack light layers, neutral clothes, sunblock, hat, insect repellent, closed shoes, and a dry bag for boat outings.

Yes, malaria risk is present. Ask your doctor about tablets, use repellent, and sleep under mosquito nets when provided.
