Compare Best Trout Fishing Tours on Lake Wakatipu

The options we compare across booking platforms typically range from $470 to $1,174, with a median price of around $709. While the broader spread can go as low as $249 or as high as $1,970 depending on group size and inclusions, most travellers will find themselves in that primary band. Private tours tend to sit at the higher end of this spectrum.

Almost every option we compare includes a professional guide and all necessary fishing equipment. A few other common inclusions are:

• Hotel pickup and drop-off
• Light meals or snacks
• Refreshments or drinks

Since roughly half of the tours are private, you often get more personalized attention, while the remaining shared groups offer a social atmosphere.

Most experiences run between 2 and 6 hours, with a median duration of about 4.5 hours. This allows enough time to travel out onto the lake, set up gear, and actually fish without feeling rushed. If you have a tight schedule, look for the shorter 2-hour options, but be aware they may cover less ground.

Yes, about one-third of the options we compare are tagged as eco-friendly. These tours often emphasize sustainable catch-and-release practices or use low-impact boats. Given that nature is the dominant theme for 100% of these listings, even non-tagged tours respect the environment, but the specific ones with eco-labels make it a core part of their offering.

Private tours are quite common here, making up roughly half of the options we compare. This is a great choice if you want exclusive access to the boat and guide, which is ideal for families or small groups who prefer flexibility over joining a larger shared vessel. The other half of the options are guided group tours.

Planning ahead is easier because approximately two-thirds of the tours we compare allow free cancellation. This gives you some flexibility if your weather plans change or your itinerary shifts. Just be sure to check the specific terms of the listing you choose, as policies can vary slightly between platforms.

Booking ahead is generally recommended, especially since instant confirmation is available for about two-thirds of the options. With an average rating of 4.67 stars across pooled reviews, demand is steady. Since most tours operate by boat and require specific equipment setup, securing your spot ensures you get the preferred date and time rather than settling for whatever is left.
