The Belfast Black Taxi Tour market is heavily skewed toward private experiences. Of the options we compare, 75% (42 listings) are private tours, meaning your vehicle and guide will be exclusive to your party. This is unusual for city sightseeing, where group buses are more common. Only about one in five options are structured as group tours, so if you prefer flexibility and privacy, you have plenty of choices.

Most tours run between 1 and 2.7 hours, with a median duration of roughly 1.8 hours. This timeframe allows for a comprehensive overview of key landmarks without feeling rushed. While some shorter hops exist, the data shows that the majority of travellers opt for the nearly two-hour experience to cover both the city centre and outer political murals comfortably.

These tours are primarily Sightseeing Tours (98% of options) with a strong focus on Cultural (96%) and Historical (96%) themes. Given Belfast's unique history, Political themes appear in 38% of the offerings, often covering the Troubles and peace process alongside general history. You will also find smaller selections focused on Art (11%) and Nature (4%), but the core experience is a deep dive into the city's cultural and historical narrative.

Booking ahead is highly recommended. While many options offer instant confirmation (66% of listings), only 11% (6 tours) are currently flagged as likely to sell out. However, given the exceptional popularity of this activity—evidenced by an average rating of 4.85★ across 20,312 pooled reviews—it is wise to secure your slot early, especially for private vehicles which are in higher demand.

As the name suggests, the vast majority of these tours use a Taxi (84% of options). Some operators may use a standard car (61%) or provide a private driver (11%), but the iconic black taxi is the dominant mode. Walking is rare, appearing in only 4% of options, so you can expect a comfortable, seated journey through the city streets rather than a walking tour.
