Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to the most common questions travelers ask before visiting.

The Santuario de Chimayo is a sacred pilgrimage site where visitors seek healing through the holy dirt in its chapel. Many pilgrims walk long distances during Holy Week to experience its spiritual power.

The tierra is located in a small chamber called the pocito inside the chapel. Visitors respectfully take small amounts of the soil, which is replenished regularly. Photography is not permitted inside.

Visit the Ortega Weaving Shop for traditional textiles, explore local galleries, and hike scenic trails in the Española Valley. The High Road to Taos offers stunning views and additional artisan communities.
