Most travellers will find solid mid-range options in the $100–$150 bracket that include meals and transport.

The most common inclusions are food and beverages. Roughly two-thirds of the options we compare (68%) include meals, often featuring local Dominican cuisine described by reviewers as spectacular. Nearly half (49%) also include drinks, such as open bars or local beer.

Other frequent inclusions:

• Hotel pickup and drop-off (24%)

Most tours last between 7 and 11 hours, with a median duration of 8 hours. This time covers the boat transfer from La Romana, the visit to the island's sandbars and lagoons, and the return journey. It is essentially a full-day excursion rather than a quick half-day trip.

Yes, private tours are a significant portion of the market here. About one-third of the options we compare (32%) are private tours, which is unusually high for this type of activity. These allow you to charter your own boat or have a dedicated group experience, though they naturally sit at the higher end of the price spectrum compared to shared group tours.

Tours are available in 8 languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Russian, Portuguese, and Lithuanian. This wide selection ensures that international groups can find a guide who speaks their preferred language, although availability may vary by date and operator.

Transport is primarily by water. The vast majority of tours (86%) use standard boats for the crossing. A smaller share (19%) uses catamarans, which offer more stability and space, while speedboats (11%) provide a faster but potentially bumpier ride depending on sea conditions.

Booking ahead is highly recommended. While about half of the options (54%) offer instant confirmation, popular dates can sell out, especially during peak season.
