Compare Top-Rated Herculaneum Excursions

Across the 23 tour options we compare on booking platforms, prices generally fall between $55 and $234, with a median price of $154. You may occasionally see listings outside this range, from as low as $29 up to $393, but most travellers will find their best fit within that primary band. Prices vary depending on whether you choose a group sightseeing tour or a private experience.

Most of the tours we compare are designed as full-day experiences, lasting around 8 hours. This duration allows for a comprehensive exploration of the site, including time for transport and guided commentary. It is worth noting that while some options might be shorter, the majority of the inventory listed across platforms commits to this longer timeframe.

Yes, private tours are a significant part of what we compare here. Roughly half of the options (12 out of 23) are tagged as private tours, which is unusually high for this type of activity. If you prefer a personalised itinerary without sharing your guide with other groups, you have ample choice. The remaining options are primarily guided group tours or self-guided visits.

Skip-the-line access is not standard for every option, but it is available if you need it. Only 4 of the tours we compare (about 17%) explicitly include skip-the-line entry. For the majority of listings, standard entry is assumed. Since 100% of the options offer instant confirmation, you can secure your spot immediately, but you should check the specific inclusions list to see if queue-jumping is part of the package.

The tours we compare are offered in 4 main languages: English, Italian, Spanish, and French. With 61% of the options including a professional guide, you will likely find support in one of these languages. Self-guided options make up only a small fraction (9%) of the total, so most visitors will have access to multilingual expertise.

If sustainability is a priority, you will find several choices. About 22% of the tours we compare (roughly 5 options) are tagged as eco-friendly by the platform. While these tags are loosely applied and do not imply formal certification, they highlight operators who may use smaller vehicles, walking routes, or local partnerships. Given that 52% of tours involve walking, many of these eco-tagged options likely align with low-impact travel methods.

Inclusions vary significantly by price point. Most tours (61%) include a guide, while about 39% include the entry ticket itself. Hotel pickup and drop-off is less common, appearing in only 13% of the options. Transportation is split between walking (52%) and car (9%), with the rest likely involving mixed modes or public transit. Always review the 'what's included' section carefully, as a lower price often means you pay for entry separately.
