Best Chania Old Town Tours & Guides

Across the 94 tour options we compare on booking platforms, prices typically range from $104 to $304, with a median of around $153. While you can find some listings starting near $39 and others going up to $701, the bulk of experiences sit in that middle band. The wider spread often reflects differences between standard group sightseeing tours and more expensive private or multi-hour food experiences.

Most tours last between 2 and 8 hours, with a median duration of about 4 hours. Because the options vary so widely, you should check the specific itinerary before booking. If you are short on time, look for shorter walking or sightseeing segments; if you want a deep dive into local culture and history, the longer private or food-focused tours will likely take up most of your day.

Yes, private tours are a significant part of this category. About 55% of the options we compare (52 listings) are tagged as private tours. This is unusually high compared to many other city experiences, giving you plenty of flexibility to customize your route or pace. If you prefer a dedicated guide and no strangers in your group, you have more than half of the market to choose from.

Guides are available in 8 languages: English, Greek, French, German, Spanish, Russian, Italian, and Norwegian. Since cultural and historical themes dominate the offerings, multilingual support is common. You can filter your search by language preference on most booking platforms to ensure you get a guide who speaks your preferred tongue.

The most common inclusion is a professional guide, found in about 66% of the options (62 listings). Other frequent inclusions include meals (28% or roughly one-quarter of tours), drinks (20%), and hotel pickup/drop-off (17%). Entry tickets are included in only about 9% of the options (9 listings), so be sure to check whether your chosen tour covers museum or site fees separately.

The vast majority of experiences are walking-based, accounting for 68% of the options (64 listings). This makes sense given the compact, pedestrian-friendly nature of the Old Town. Other modes include car (14%), bus (9%), van (5%), and private driver (4%). If you prefer not to walk long distances, look for the smaller share of car or bus-based city tours.
