New Year’s Day – Jan 1 (Sat) & Substitute Holiday Jan 3 (Mon), 2022
Western New Year, held on the 31st of December to the 1st of January, is the official Thailand holiday to celebrate New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. This holiday is celebrated with dance, music, and food. People visit Buddhist temples to make offerings and perform religious ceremonies on New Year’s first morning.
Makha Bucha (Magha Puja) – Feb 16 (Wed), 2022
Mukha Bucha is celebrated on the full moon night in the third lunar month. This holiday represents the day when almost twelve hundred disciples of Buddha came together to hear a sermon that taught the central principles of Buddhist teachings. You should know that they don’t sell alcoholic drinks during the holidays related to Buddhism.
Chakri Memorial Day – Apr 6 (Wed), 2022
The official name of the day is “King Buddha Yodfa Chulaloke the Great Day and Chakri Dynasty Memorial Day.” People commemorate the Chakri Dynasty and Kings. The king and his royal family members participate in the religious ceremony to pay respects to their ancestors.
Songkran – Apr 13-15, 2022
It is also known as Thai New Year and is celebrated between the 13th of April and the 15th of April. It is followed by a celebration that is three days long. This day is linked with bringing rain for a healthy harvest, fertility, and purifying items for the New Year. People splash water on each other, and this activity has turned into a water fight that spans over multiple days.
Labour Day – May 1 (Sun) & Substitute Holiday May 3 (Mon), 2022
Labor day is among other official Thailand holidays that are observed on the 1st of May. Schools and Businesses remain closed on this day.
H.M. King’s Coronation Day – May 4 (Wed), 2022
Coronation day is held on the 4th of May to celebrate the coronation of the current ruling King of Thailand.
Royal Ploughing Ceremony – May 13 (Fri, 2022)
Coronation day is held on the 13th of May to celebrate the coronation of the current ruling King of Thailand. Only government organizations are closed during this holiday.
Visakha Bucha Day (Vesak) – May 15 (Sun) & Substitute Holiday May 16 (Mon), 2022
Visakha Bucha Day is celebrated on the 15th of May to commemorate the birth, enlightenment, and death of Buddha. It is one of the major Buddhist holidays. Because May 15 is Sunday, May 16 is the substitute holiday this year.
H.M Queen Suthida’s Birthday – Jun 3 (Fri), 2022
This holiday celebrates the birthday of the current queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana. She was born on June 3rd, 1979.
Asalha Puja Day (Dhamma) – Jul 13 (Wed), 2022
Asalha Puja Day is held either in July or at the start of August. This holiday celebrates the first sermon of the Buddha. And it’s considered as the first day of Thailand. Alcohol beverage is not sold on the holiday. And July 15 is a bridge public holiday this year.
Beginning of Vassa – Jul 14 (Thu), 2022
For the three months of the Vassa, monks stay in one place and focus on meditation. It’s also called ‘Buddhist Lent’ from foreigners. People celebrate the beginning of the Vassa. Only government organizations are closed and July 15 is a bridge holiday in 2022. You can’t buy alcoholic beverages from July 13 to 14.
H.M. King’s Birthday – Jul 28 (Thu), 2022
It’s the birthday of the king, Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua. Many companies and organizations publish advertisements wishing for the King’s longevity. In 2022, July 29 is the bridge public holiday.
H.M. Queen Mother’s Birthday – Aug 12 (Fri), 2022
The 12th of August marks the celebration of The H.M. Queen Mother’s Birthday and Thailand’s Mother Day as well.
The Passing of King Bhumibol – Oct 13 (Thu), 2022
King Bhumibol, Rama IX, passed away on October 13th, 2016 after the longest reign of Thailand from June 9th, 1946. People show condolence to the previous King keeping silent at the exact time he passed away, 3:52 pm. October 14 (Friday) is a bridge public holiday this year.
Chulalongkorn Memorial Day – Oct 23 (Sun) & Substitute Holiday Oct 24 (Mon), 2022
This Thailand Holiday is celebrated on the 23rd of October to pay tribute to the life of King Chulalongkorn. October 24 is the substitute holiday in 2022.
The King Bhumibol’s Birthday (Father’s Day) – Dec 5 (Mon), 2022
The King’s Birthday and Father’s Day is celebrated on the 5th of December to commemorate the birthday of Thailand’s king, Bhumibol, Rama IX, and the National Father’s Day of Thailand. Many people gather outside to watch fascinating fireworks at night in Bangkok.

Constitution Day is held on the 10th of December to celebrate the day when Thailand became a constitutional monarchy in the year 1932. On this day, the constitution of Thailand was signed.
