Best Nærøyfjord & Flåm Railway Tours from Bergen

When comparing the 31 options we track across booking platforms, prices generally range from $306 to $1,226, with a median price of $451. While some basic tickets may appear lower, full-day combined experiences usually sit in the higher end of that band. You can often find deals starting around $396 if you look for standard group tours rather than private charters.

The most popular packages bundle the two main activities together. Across the options we compare, about half include a guide, while roughly 42% include entry tickets and 35% explicitly include the cruise portion. Since transport between Bergen and the fjord is complex, many travellers choose packages that also include bus or private vehicle transport (about 23% of listings). Booking a bundled tour saves the hassle of coordinating train tickets and ferry schedules separately.

It depends on your group size and flexibility needs. About 32% of the tours we compare are private, which is unusually high for this type of activity. Private tours offer more control over timing and stops but come at a premium. Group tours make up the majority of listings and are tagged as such in 55% of cases. If you are travelling solo or as a couple, a group tour offers better value; larger groups might find the per-person cost of a private option competitive.

These are full-day commitments. The median duration is 11.5 hours, with most tours lasting between 10 and 13.3 hours. The journey typically involves a train ride through the mountains followed by a cruise through the narrow Nærøyfjord arm. Because the travel time is significant, you should plan for a day trip that starts early in the morning and returns late in the evening.

Guided commentary is offered in four languages: English, Norwegian, Spanish, and Chinese. About 52% of the tours we compare include a guide, so language availability varies by operator. English is the most widely available option across platforms, but if you prefer Spanish or Chinese, you will need to filter specifically for those tags when browsing the 31 listed options.

Booking ahead is highly recommended. Only 10% of the options we compare (3 listings) are currently flagged as likely to sell out, but given the limited capacity on both the railway and the fjord cruises, popularity spikes during summer months. Additionally, 68% of tours offer instant confirmation, which allows you to secure your spot immediately upon payment without waiting for manual approval.

Bring waterproof layers and warm boots. Bergen is rainy and mild, so heavy snow gear is unnecessary but rain protection is key.
