Best Pompeii & Amalfi Coast Experiences

Across the 47 options we compare, most tours fall between $164 and $377, with a median price of around $232. While you can find some listings starting as low as $127 or going up to $749 for premium private experiences, the bulk of travellers book within that mid-range band. Prices vary based on group size, transport mode, and whether meals are included.

For many visitors, yes. About 60% of the options we compare include entry tickets, and 66% provide a guide. A basic ticket only gets you through the gates; a guided tour adds context to the ruins, which is critical given the site's vastness. Additionally, roughly 45% of tours offer hotel pickup and drop-off, saving you the hassle of coordinating public transport from the Amalfi Coast.

The vast majority of these are sightseeing tours (91%), with a strong historical focus (100%). What stands out is the high share of private tours: about 34% of the options are private, which is unusually high for this type of excursion. You will also find wine tasting tours (26%) and museum-focused itineraries (19%), but if you want a flexible, personalised pace, the private segment is well-represented here.

Most tours last between 4 and 8 hours, with a median duration of 6 hours. This timeframe typically accounts for travel time from Amalfi, the guided exploration of the archaeological park, and return transit. If you have a tight schedule, look for shorter sightseeing slots, but be aware that rushing through Pompeii in less than four hours often means missing key areas like the Villa of the Mysteries or the Forum.

It is highly recommended during peak season. Only 15% of the options explicitly include skip-the-line access, meaning the majority require standard queueing. If you are visiting between June and September, securing one of those limited skip-the-line listings can save you over an hour of waiting. For the other 85% of tours that offer instant confirmation, booking ahead is still essential to guarantee your spot.

Tours are available in 6 languages: English, Italian, Spanish, French, Portuguese, and German. Regarding transport, 45% of tours use a bus, while 26% use a car or minivan. Walking makes up 23% of the itinerary once you arrive at the site. If you prefer comfort and flexibility, a car-based private tour (part of the 26% car/minivan/private driver mix) might suit you better than a large coach bus.
